Jordan Reimer is a teenage author and musician. She completed her first novel about young love and music. Appropriately enough, Jordan also wrote a collect of songs to serve as a companion to the book. She wanted a book cover that really resonated with her audience. The first book in the Lucy Ginger Chronicles was entitled Love on Lemon Lane.
The book was originally titled Love on Lemon Road. The first idea was pretty straight forward. I channeled the youthful nature of the material with a handwritten font.
From there, I experimented with different grid patterns to generate more movement in the cover. Additionally, I pushed the font towards the same typeface seen on highway signage.
Switching gears, I dialed things back even further on the cover added guitar picks and lemons for the hero photo.
As well as doing some small photo manipulation to create a metaphor.
Finally, doing a 180, I went from a subtle cover to a very loud and intrusive cover.
The final version ended up being a combination of the first two versions with minor revisions to the copy.
